Penguin Days at the Dallas Zoo ~ January 1st - February 28th


It's January and can you believe that for the past 2 days it's been in the 70's?!  Gotta love Texas weather! This fabulous weather is supposed to continue, so why not visit the Dallas ZOO ~ they have PENGUIN DAYS after all!

                                                                       


What are PENGUIN DAYS you ask? It's from January 1st-February 28th. It's when admission is $5.00 Ages 3-64 / FREE Children (age 2 and under) instead of the usual $12 per children between 2 – 11, $15 for children 12 and adults (up to 64 years young) and $12 for seniors (65 & above)! Parking however is $8/car ... or you could take the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) RED LINE to the Dallas Zoo Station ~ day ticket is $5/person and children 5 and under are Free. Ummmm, yeah, any way you slice it, PENGUIN DAYS at the Dallas ZOO is a great deal!


So put on your most comfortable shoes ~ gather up the kids and animal lovers and head to the Dallas ZOO to take advantage of the PENGUIN DAYS. The animal habitats will have you roaring! My son's favorite is the 11 acre Giants of the Savanna habitat where you can literally feed and pet the giraffes!


                  

... and of course the Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo which has a stream for splashing, ponies for riding, and birds for feeding!



                                   
Throughout the day, there are also numerous "Keeper Encounters & Training Demonstrations" that are both interactive and entertaining!

                                                    
Hungry, there's a number of places you can eat at with a variety of food to purchase or you can bring your own picnic lunch. My favorite spot is the Serengeti Grill ~ you can actually watch the lions roam around on the other side of the floor-to-ceiling tempered glass window!

So whether you like lions or tigers or bears (oh my!) a PENGUIN DAYS at the Dallas ZOO will no doubt be FUN for all!

Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act Extended ... What Does It Really Mean?

Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act has officially been EXTENDED to January 1, 2014! ... What does this really mean though???


This is great news for those Home Owners who unfortunately have to do a Short Sale or Foreclosure! Why you ask?  Well, to put it simply, if a homeowner sells their home via Short Sale/Foreclosure for $50,000 but they still owe $100,000 on their Mortgage Note. The Bank has "forgiven" the homeowner the remaining $50,000. The homeowner should have to pay TAX on that waived $50,000 but because of the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007, the homeowner is not taxed on that "forgiven" money and it's not considered as Income.    

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) said in it's plea to the House and the Senate, "Homeowners shouldn't be forced to pay a tax on money they've already lost with cash they never received." You see, when any debt is "forgiven" or written off, whether it's by a company, a landlord, ect, and a Tax Form is filled out noting this "forgiveness", the Federal Government counts that forgiven amount as INCOME ... which in turn the individual has to claim it on their Federal Income Taxes and pay TAX on it. Soooo with the extension of the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act, homeowners who are struggling will have another year to take advantage of not being TAXED on their Mortgage Debt Forgiveness the bank gave them!  

To see if you qualify, talk to your tax adviser and go to http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/The-Mortgage-Forgiveness-Debt-Relief-Act-and-Debt-Cancellation-    

In addition, homeowners who made less than $110,000 in 2012 and/or 2013, can deduct their Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) from their Income Taxes. Again, talk to your tax adviser to see if you qualify.
