It's that wonderful time of year again ... Texas State Fair!!! But you better hurry because it all ends on October 21st! Here's a quick glance of all the wonderful things you'll find there

To help you find your way around the Texas State Fair Grounds, here's a State Fair of Texas Map that you can print off before you go.

Speaking of going, of course you can drive to the Texas State Fair or you can travel via:

• DART ... DART Rail Green Line to two stations – Fair Park Station, located on Parry Avenue at the entrance to the fairgrounds, and MLK, Jr. Station, located south of R.B. Cullum Blvd. and convenient to the MLK fairground entrance (Gate 6).

• UBER ... The Uber pick-up/drop-off area is conveniently located at the intersection of Pacific and Gurley, just outside Gate 1. When you’re ready to head home, exit the grounds before you request your ride. Head north towards Haskell to get to the designated Uber pickup area and meet your driver.

Now ya'll go have yourself a BIG TEX of a time!!!

City of Rowlett Summer Concerts & Food Trucks - August 2016

Oh man ... Lake Ray Hubbard Life just keeps getting better & better! Rowlett is hosting the inaugural Summer Concert Series at Pecan Grove Park, 5300 Main St. In addition to the music, there will be some of the DFW Metroplex's best FOOD TRUCKS onsite!

Every Friday in August, starting at 7:00pm, the city of Rowlett offers open air concerts free of charge.  It’s a family friendly time to spread a blanket, listen to live music, sip a beverage and enjoy the fresh air and enjoy some great Food Truck eats!

People meet new best friends, kids play, random people dance, and every now and then, you might just see a proposal and participate in the general cheering.  Summer memories don’t get any better!

The schedule for this August runs as follows and music is from 7:30-9:00

August 5: Walkin the Line (Johnny Cash Tribute)

August 12: Escape (Journey Tribute)

August 19: Time Train (variety)

August 26: Me and My Monkey (The Beatles Tribute)

Free Music Concerts at Rockwall Harbor Amphitheater - 2016 Series

Lake Ray Hubbard Life in the Summer has some major advantages.  One of the greatest are the Thursday night concerts by the lake at the Rockwall Harbor Amphitheater, 2074 Summer Lee Drive, Rockwall, TX 75032. 

Every Thursday starting at 7:30pm, from May through July, the city of Rockwall offers open air concerts  free of charge.  It’s a family friendly time to spread a blanket, listen to live music, sip a beverage and enjoy the fresh air and scenic views.

People meet new best friends, kids play, random people dance, and every now and then, you might just see a proposal and participate in the general cheering.  Summer memories don’t get any better!

Penguin Days at the Dallas Zoo ~ January 1st - February 28th

It's January and can you believe that for the past 2 days it's been in the 70's?!  Gotta love Texas weather! This fabulous weather is supposed to continue, so why not visit the Dallas ZOO ~ they have PENGUIN DAYS after all!

                                                                       

What are PENGUIN DAYS you ask? It's from January 1st-February 28th. It's when admission is $5.00 Ages 3-64 / FREE Children (age 2 and under) instead of the usual $12 per children between 2 – 11, $15 for children 12 and adults (up to 64 years young) and $12 for seniors (65 & above)! Parking however is $8/car ... or you could take the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) RED LINE to the Dallas Zoo Station ~ day ticket is $5/person and children 5 and under are Free. Ummmm, yeah, any way you slice it, PENGUIN DAYS at the Dallas ZOO is a great deal!

So put on your most comfortable shoes ~ gather up the kids and animal lovers and head to the Dallas ZOO to take advantage of the PENGUIN DAYS. The animal habitats will have you roaring! My son's favorite is the 11 acre Giants of the Savanna habitat where you can literally feed and pet the giraffes!

                             

                  

... and of course the Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo which has a stream for splashing, ponies for riding, and birds for feeding!

           

                                   
Throughout the day, there are also numerous "Keeper Encounters & Training Demonstrations" that are both interactive and entertaining!

                                                    

Hungry, there's a number of places you can eat at with a variety of food to purchase or you can bring your own picnic lunch. My favorite spot is the Serengeti Grill ~ you can actually watch the lions roam around on the other side of the floor-to-ceiling tempered glass window!

So whether you like lions or tigers or bears (oh my!) a PENGUIN DAYS at the Dallas ZOO will no doubt be FUN for all!

2011 TEXAS STATE FAIR, Family Fun Spotlight~Dallas

Who Wants some Fried Butter or perhaps some Fried Coke? Well there's only 2 more weeks left of the 2011 TEXAS STATE FAIR that's in full swing, so you better get a move on it!

                                          

Did you know that the TEXAS STATE FAIR has been a family tradition since 1886??!!!?? That's right, 125 years of Fried Food, Fun, & Livestock!



The State Fair of Texas kicked off this year on Friday Sept 30th and will be open everyday until Oct 23rd with the Fair Grounds opening as early as 7am everyday (buildings open at 10a) and closing at 9pm on Tues-Thurs & 10pm Fri-Monday.


Tickets at the door are $16 for adults and $12 for seniors & children 3yrs to 48". BUT do yourself a favor and buy your ticket on the State Fair of Texas website for a discounted price (adults $13.95/child $10) OR ... stop in to a McDonald's to pick up for a $4 off coupon or Krogers for a $14.95 ticket. You can also bring an empty Dr Pepper can on Tuesdays to get in for $4, 3 Can Goods on Wednesdays to get in for $2, or an empty Dr Pepper can on Thursdays after 5pm to get in for $5, or a Cinemark Theater ticket stub to get in for FREE on Thursdays! *Seniors are FREE on Thursdays!!! Oh & don't forget to bring $15 for Parking.



Did you know that the TEXAS STATE FAIR is the largest State Fair in the country??!!!??



There's literally hunderds of things to do, but here's my Top 5 List of what you Don't Want to Miss ...

• USMC Drum & Bugle Corps, leading off the RELIANT STARLIGHT PARADE at 7:15pm 
• CIRQUE SHANGHAI, A 22 member Chinese acrobatic troupe that performs daily at multiple times 
• CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER BARNYARD, full of sheeps, lamas, goats, pigs, zebras & lots more for the kiddos to pet, feed, & see play 
• GONE TO THE DOGS, jumpin' canine action that performs daily, ... and of course ... 
• BIG TEX, the legendary 52-ft tall icon of the Texas State Fair
